Chana Freidl the Maker is, well, WAS my Protegee Sister; and IS simply put an amazing and talented human. Once she received her Writ to contemplate joining the Order of the Pelican – the wheels were set in motion and the things happened. Knowing that her personna is vaguely “Silk Road-ish” and having a few inspo pics to go by, the project(s) began. Several of the photos she offered were Ottoman style, but the one that got everyone’s eye was this Persian ensemble.

Now, as many of you know, my SCA style is “Historically Adequate”. Chana has a far looser SCA style, and does not suffer a button counter. She works super hard at events, and needs freedom of movement, but also wanted fancy and jewel tones. Let’s hit the stash!
For the Vigil garb, I made a Pirahan tunic and “sharwal” pants from white handkerchef weight cotton. Lightweight for the Pennsic heat, ease of movement, not to hot as a base layer.

For the Court-Garb, I created a split-sleve Entari.I had a lovely royal purple sari that told me it wanted to be an entari when it was time – I feel like I delivered it to it’s proper final form. It was lined with a lightweight, white and blue cotton, and got pearl buttons.

“Sharwal”, I use quotes, because anytime I make sharwal according to a period interpretation they are just so large and cumbersome. No time for that nonsense. I found a pajama pants patern that is customizable so you get a comfy fit, where it counts, and can taper the ankle for the narrower cuff. These pants were made from an emerald green sari with a Peacock motif on the border.
The Kaftan. Well. We started this endeavor in March. One of our friends offered a STUN-NING turquoise douppioni silk. As we discussed early on what would be “THE Embellishment”, clearly it had to be a Cloud Collar. I had a royal purple douppioni that was beautifully embroidered by Scolastical Cappelaria and Lilia DeVeaux, with a BIG assist to me from Adelisa Salernitana (yes, *THAT* Laurel). The coat is short sleeved, to show off the entari sleeves, and does not have a closure – also to show off the entari. It is lined in a purple and light blue printed cotton.
